The 970U ISDN Telephone
Note: The 970 series ISDN Telephones have been discontinued by Lucent as new manufacture. HOWEVER - we do have a large number of new units in stock. These were/are a great ISDN telephone and IDS still supports these with inventory and technical support.

DESIGNED FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE
Robust features include:
Advanced Voice Features
Data Features
The 970U Voice/Data set comes with a proprietary connector that plugs into the card on the back of the voice/data module (PCMCIA-like card) that has a standard DB9 connector on the other end for connection to a standard PC serial port.
B-Channel Circuit-Switched Services supported:
Ordering Information - Order
line: (336) 299-4409
All sets employ a PCMCIA-like card. All SPID settings, speed dial
directory, and other features are saved in the set's non-volatile memory. The only item
that has to be reset when replacing the card (or if the set loses power) is the time and
date clock.
The 970 has an analog POTS port on the back of the set. The POTS port can support Group 3 fax machines, cordless telephones, analog modems, standard telephone sets, etc. The POTS port has a ringer capacity to drive up to 3.0 REN. The POTS port supports DTMF (touchtone) devices only, not pulse (rotary) devices.
Using One SPID
There are two ways to configure the POTS port. With one SPID, the POTS port simply uses an existing call appearance on the set; and the user can toggle between the analog set and the 970, but cannot bridge onto a call.
Using Two SPIDs
When configured with two SPIDs, the first SPID should be configured with the features and multiple call appearances that the customer desires. The second SPID is automatically assigned to the analog POTS port. This allows the second SPID to be used independently from the first number - and at the same time (as long as a data call is not connected). The terminal supports either CACH EKTS or Basic Voice. When configured for the two SPIDs, both SPIDs must be the same mode: either both CACH EKTS or both Basic Voice.
Bellcore, Lucent, Nortel & Siemens Compliance and Compatibility
The terminals have been tested on all three switch types using the Lucent EKTS testing configuration and are approved for use on all switches. The internal NT1 has been tested by Bellcore and complies with Layer I ANSI T1.601 specifications and CCITT Recommendations Q.921 and Q.931 for Layers 2 and Layer 3. The 970 voice/data software is in full conformance with IOC packages S, U, V, EZ-ISDN 1 and EZ-ISDN 1A. The 970 voice only software is compatible with IOC packages EZ-ISDN 1 and EZ-ISDN 1A.

Notes on the 970
Data
You do not need to assign a call appearance for data. No auxiliary features (such as Conference, Caller ID, etc.) can be assigned to the second telephone number, since the POTS port does not allow access to auxiliary features.
Second Primary Directory Number
When a set is configured with a second primary directory number, and when the set is offered a voice call on the second telephone number, only the POTS device will alert. The call indicator button on the set will light, providing the user a visual indicator on the 970 to allow a user to know that a call is up on the POTS port. However, calls cannot be bridged, originated or answered from the 970 on the POTS call indicator button.
National ISDN Support and Parameter Downloading
The 970 phones support National ISDN-1 and ISDN-2 Version 1 parameter downloading. The terminals also allow end users to manually request a parameter download. The terminals support National ISDN on the 5E, DMS and EWSD. The terminals do not support 5E Custom ISDN.
